5/11 to 5/17: A Summer Plan Is Forming

At this point I don't have anything written in stone for a summer plan, but things are starting to take shape. I have not set any goals, or put any "A" races in the calendar (though, I suppose Mt. Washington is the closest thing at the moment). With that being the case, I'm basically aiming to stay healthy.

One thing I have decided is to try and incorporate doubles into my routine on a much more consistent basis. Right now that's a lot easier to do when the temperatures remain in the 50's for a morning commute, but I anticipate that becoming a bit more challenging when the real summer weather rolls around. I would like to do a little more research on the subject at some point in the future. Will a 4/4 double doing anything for me? or even 4/6? Is there a threshold of time or distance that I should be hitting with each run? Would I be better off doubling on easy days? Hard? Both?

I don't know the answers and for the moment - I don't especially care. I have a full time job, and time will only allow for so much. So if I can only run a 4/4 on some days, then so be it. The aim is to get my legs conditioned to doing doubles on a consistent basis. I've been doubling 4 times a week for the past two weeks, and if I can average that for the entire summer I will consider that a success.

The only other 'goal' for the summer is to run 70+ miles per week. Last summer my mileage was closer to 45mpw. I do wonder if 70mpw will be manageable with the hot weather and ultimate, but I think I will see some serious gainz in fitness if I can hold that mileage and stay healthy.
