6/22 to 7/5: Hard Training, Perhaps Too Hard & an Injury

As of today, I'm a tad injured. I was forced to take my first day off in over two months last week, and my goal of 70+ miles per week throughout the summer fell short because of it. Both of these things are mentally difficult for me to deal with (I just wanted to run!!!), and caused me to have a some poor sleeping habits (restless) - but it is obviously for the best to rest and recover.

Playing ultimate last Tuesday night, I was trying to run down the disc, when I felt a twinge in my upper hamstring where it attaches to the bone. I was able to play sparingly the rest of the game, but I could feel that while it wasn't a major injury, it wasn't a minor injury either. It has required me to back off a bit. I've noticed some aching pain here before, but it has been fine to run on and never got worse. This time it caused discomfort in a multitude of positions and was fairly painful.

Looking back, between the races, the workouts, and ultimate - I'll need to be careful of the quality each week. I've been running a bit harder than I should, considering the basic goal of mileage & health.

Anyways, I think this mild injury sucks, but I'll take it as a sign to refocus on the overall goal: hit mileage and stay healthy.

Here's the stuff:
22-Jun Long Run 0:07:04 14.10   Felt really good, and after the first ~3 miles, I just started going with the flow…which turned out to be ~6:40s.
23-Jun 4-hill route/Easy 0:07:35 14.00 AM: Early lunch run on the 4-hill route. 8m in 1hr
PM: 6m, first 2+ with Raleigh. Easy.
24-Jun Easy/Easy/Ultimate 0:07:45 8.00 AM: Commute to work, slow. Tired.
PM: Commute home, still tired. Bees game after that.
25-Jun Easy/Intervals 15.08 AM: Commute to work, slow. Still really wiped.
PM: Commute home, then intervals. Commute sucked, then the workout was cut short because I was just totally cooked. 1000x2/400x4/400 - middle 400's on 1min rest.
26-Jun Easy/Easy/Ultimate 0:08:00 9.15 AM: Commute to work
PM: Commute home + ultimate
27-Jun Battle Road/NH Travel 0:07:37 8.09 AM: Battle Road pretty comfortable pace.
PM: Travel to NH
28-Jun New Hampshire 0:09:47 4.67 AM: Easy running
PM: Fun
29-Jun New Hampshire 0:07:05 4.23 AM: Quicker run + a decent amount of swimming
30-Jun New Hampshire 0:07:42 12.62 AM: Drive.
PM: Longish run, included Raleigh on the tail end.
1-Jul Intervals or Ultimate 0:07:30 12.31 AM: Commute to work.
PM: 8+ commute home plus hard running to Ultimate. Strained my upper hamstring during the game. Was able to play through it, but not a good idea to do so. DANGITALL!
2-Jul Resting the Injury 0.00 So the hamstring issue yesterday caused my first day off in over two months. It was similar to the injury on May 21, but worse.
3-Jul Easy/Easy 0:07:55 9.71 AM: 4+ commute to work.
PM: 5+ home
4-Jul Easy 0:07:27 8.01 Just ran based on feel, and by the end I was going at around 6:55 very comfortably. Hamstring stayed the same throughout the run.
5-Jul Easy 0:07:08 4.46 Easy around the Charles, though it ended up being quick.
Splits on 6/25:
1000-3:26.85
1000-3:25.52
400-1:17.84
400-1:17.46
400-1:19.62
400-1:23.83
400-1:18.45

6/22 to 6/28 Total: 73.09
6/29 to 7/5 Total: 51.34 (WTF!!!!)
